An audiovisual CV is a smart Ad of yourself.
It is an important personal targeting tool in the matchmaking process between job seekers and employers and one of the most efficient ways to cut through the noise of competitiveness and create you uncontested market space.
You introduce yourself audio-visually and stand out from the crowd.
If you wish to produce the Video CV yourself, the following advice will be of great help to you!
1. Define your primary audience. What is the ideal company you want to work for? Address the right person. Find out as much as possible about him/her. The more you know about their values, the more target oriented your audiovisual message will be.
2. Take your CV and motivation letter into account. The Video CV basically sums up your motivation letter. It is not the guarantee for a job, but it may be the guarantee to be invited for a job interview!
3. Be yourself! Anyhow this is the healthiest advice for a happy and long term employment relationship. This allows you to find and attract jobs and colleagues who fit your values. It enhances your potential and elevates you professionally.
4. Be direct, concise and straight to the point. Do not lose your authenticity – it’s the one trait to make you stand up from the crowd!
5. Focus on your strengths and on how you fit the targeted company’s culture.
6. Feelings! Feelings! Feelings! The strength of audiovisual content is the opportunity to let you express yourself and touch your audience’s emotions. Nevertheless, act normal and neutral, don’t be artificial. And never forget you are promoting yourself to certain categories that think, feel or behave in some specific way.
7. Be creative: Support what you are saying: bring references (friends, relatives, colleagues, former bosses, mentors) who confirm your traits (ideally your strengths).
8. Once again: Allow yourself to be creative. Since the shot and the cut are the most basic building blocks of cinematic art, I leave it up to you to define your signature. Meanwhile you may want to try different techniques such as jump-cuts, split-edits, close-ups, split screen, blending images; nevertheless never forget: simple is beautiful!
9. Keep it short (1-3 minutes) and simple – but do not lack profoundness!
10. Finally, while all technical means are there to help you, don’t forget to focus on the appropriate story-telling. That’s the hardest part and simultaneously the beauty of film making as well.
